arrival in Honiara

After leaving Brisbane at 10pm, we landed on Henderson Airfield in Honiara at 2:30am on Saturday morning. After a warm welcome in the tropical heat, we were brought to our place of stay, the traveller's motel (pictures will follow, when the camera is attached to the computer.)

After getting up at 11am, we had a short excursion into town. It is mainly one road with shops and other buildings to the right and to the left. After our first local meal and a fresh coconut, the heat had made us very sleepy.

The evening we spent at Hermann Oberli's place together with some other wantoks from Switzerland (wantok = onetalk = someone with same language = compatriots).

Our Hotel. We are the only white men. All others come from Solomon Islands. So we meet plenty of locals.

First impression from the main and only street of Honiara. It is actually the only street where cars can go without 4WD.
