The Central Hospital

Today is the first day at the hospital. People are very friendly and very much interested in the histology lab. Dr. Roger, a local MD who will eventually become a pathologist, came from Malaita, another island, to Honiara only to see how the lab is set up.

As the lab on the hospital compus is very crowded, we want to set up the histology lab at the SIMTRI, the local Japanese malaria research institute that is currently not in use.

After bringing our equipment to the SIMTRI and setting everything up, we have to learn that there are restrictions on electric power. Electricity is there from 8 to 10am and from 12 to 2pm. That's a bit too little. So we pack everything and go back to the hospital.

By now it is noon and we have a break. In the afternoon, we manage to find out where to set up our lab. It is a room with 2x3m in size! By the evening everything was unpacked. That is how time goes by here, slowly, slowly. Moving too fast in the heat is no good. "Solomon Time" not "Swiss Time".

no worries....

Elisabeth Oberli with her collection of jars. That's what we need for the lab. Appropriate goblin jars are not available on the Solomons.
